Well, it seemed as though Christmas was so far away, yet somehow it’s already over. How did that happen? All the shopping and stressing about what to get people and then it’s over in the blink of an eye. It takes hours to wrap all the presents you’re giving, but then they’re opened in two seconds. Now, it’s time to think about New Year’s Eve! Just kidding. Not quite yet.
Before even thinking about the coming of the new year, it’s nice to reflect on Christmas a bit. I must say that Christmas Eve was hilarious with Ryan. We went to church and took him in the main sanctuary with us, instead of taking him to the toddler room. He didn’t want to be in our laps, so we put him down, hoping he would not run off or embarrass us in some way during the service. Quite the opposite. The music came on and Ryan started dancing in the aisle. Nothing crazy, just a little knee bending with the tunes. He stands with his feet apart and then bends his knees like he’s doing squats. Of course this began to create attention, because of the cuteness factor. He began waving at anyone that would make eye contact with him. He could also tell when the song was almost over and he would begin clapping before anyone else. I must say, it was a joy to see!
Christmas day was nice too. We all woke up around 7:00 a.m. and opened presents. Everyone took turns…Ruby, Todd, Jen, Ryan…over and over again. I thought it would never end! We had already exchanged gifts with my side of the family, so we opened all the gifts from them, in addition to the ones we bought for each other.
Ryan wasn’t as excited as I thought he would be opening presents. He didn’t seem to care much about his gifts. He thought it was more fun to play with all of Ruby’s gifts instead. Oh well, maybe next year.
After the marathon present opening event, I made breakfast for everyone. We had some cinnamon muffins, hash browns, scrambled eggs, and bacon. I even went crazy and cooked the bacon, instead of microwaving the pre-cooked stuff. I know, I know…I sure know how to treat my family like royalty. Thanks for noticing! Once breakfast was over, we all took naps while Ruby played with her friend next door. A nice relaxing afternoon.
Later on, we went to my brother and sister-in-law’s house and had a wonderful dinner with both of our families. A little more present opening and lots of food. Ryan wasn’t too happy about eating dinner. For once, he was actually enjoying just running around the house and chatting it up with other family members. Usually Ryan is right next to me or Todd and wants to be held. He ended the night by giving kisses to most of the family. Go figure! I guess he was feeling the holiday spirit and he just couldn’t contain himself!
A beautiful and pleasant day. Only 364 days until next Christmas…
