We Are What We Eat

by Heavenly Mommy on February 12, 2010

If that’s the case, then Ryan is a barking bubble boy. Yeah, you read that right. Ryan’s diet has been a little strange this week.

A couple days ago he decided that he likes to play in the hall closet. That’s because he figured out that he doesn’t need to turn the handle for the door to open, he just has to grab the handle and pull. It’s one of those easy, cheesy, non-toddler-proof sort of doors.  For pure entertainment purposes, I was letting him play in the closet. He likes to take out the furry duster and the little boxes and extension cords. He comes into the living room and starts shaking his head, like this is good mom. At this point I’m wondering just what he could possibly be eating. Well, he took some dog food out of the container and decided to give it a try. To his surprise, he thought is was tasty. That was until I noticed what he was eating and started to dry-heave while trying to take the food out of his mouth.

I stuck my finger in his mouth to get the dog food out. Then I grabbed a sippy cup full of water to help him wash it down. Yum. Well, you would think after that he would think twice before putting something else in his mouth. Not quite.

Yesterday morning he saw the bubbles in the cabinet and kept saying, “bubbles, bubbles” so I took them out and started entertaining him and the dog.  You know, the bubbles in the cute little container with the wand? Well, Ryan is at the age where he wants to do everything on his own, so he tried to snatch them from me. I wasn’t in the mood to hear him scream, so I let him play with them for a sec. I knew I better keep a close eye on him to make sure he doesn’t try to drink it likes it’s water. Sure enough, two seconds later he takes a big gulp. I thought he was going to start blowing bubbles out of his mouth.

Nope, instead he starts coughing and getting red in the face. He didn’t think they tasted too great, apparently. I really thought he might throw up. He kept burping and making all these strange faces. I freaked out and called Todd, but he just told me to give him some water. I was worried it might make it worse and the bubbles would start coming out of his mouth and nose or something freaky.

I guess mommy needs to pay attention to her barking bubble boy. Next time it might not be something edible by humans or non-toxic. He just might start eating the furniture, like the dog, and become barking bubble banister boy.

Like father like son. I swallowed a coin once and lived to tell about it.
