Yes, I’m one of those moms who likes to make a big deal about each monthly birthday. After all, Ryan’s my one and only little one, so someone needs to keep track of these little things. Right? Of course this won’t continue after age 2 because that’s just weird people!
We went to pick Ruby up and her little sisters were in the car. The older one is 5 and the younger one is a little over 2 1/2. They’re always SO into Ryan and it’s so darn cute. Here is a picture of Ryan checking out the girls. I just love the look on his face. He’s already figuring out how to reel in the ladies! {Sorry for the dates being in the picture. I forgot to turn the setting off my camera!}
It’s funny because when Ryan was between 6 and 12 months old he would stop and pose for me when I took out the camera. Now I’m lucky if I can get a picture of him looking at me!
I keep snapping picture after picture, but this is the best Mama can do for now. Hopefully it’s just a phase he’s going through and he’ll turn into a model any day now!
Ryan is such a sweet boy and a joy to be around {when he’s not acting like a toddler, of course}. You know what I mean. He likes to pitch a fit, scream, throw things, pull hair and slap when he doesn’t get his way. But if I forget about all his toddlerness then I can’t get enough of him!
I have to laugh right now. I just received a sign from God. Well, not really God, but WhatToExpect.Com. As I’m writing this post an email was sent to my inbox titled, “Is There a Right Way to Discipline a Toddler?” I guess maybe I should read up! LOL
Seriously though, he’s only like that a small percentage of the day. He really is a kind and loving boy.
He just got in his 17th tooth. One of his 2 year molars, I guess you could say.
He likes us to pray before every meal and before naps and bedtime. We even get to hold hands. Tonight he yelled, “MAMA!” so I would come and sit down to pray together as a family before our dinner.
He loves his sister and always wants to play with her and in her stuff. Ruby doesn’t always like it, but she puts up with him. Lovingly. I don’t think he understands why she comes and goes all the time. Explaining she is his half sister is going to be confusing!
He also loves our dog, Charlie. He likes to grab her dog toys and throw them to get her excited so she’ll run around the house. Ryan learned that from his Papa, who he also can’t get enough of either! When Todd comes in the door after work, Ryan yells, “Papa, Papa!” and runs to him. It makes my heart melt.
I think Tuesdays are his favorite day of the week. It’s trash day. He can’t wait to hear the sound of the trash trucks that come by 3 times a day. I know this because every time he hears one he yells, “Trash truck! Trash truck!” and then makes us take him over to the window so he can see the trucks go by.
When we drop Ryan off at church on Sundays, he turns around and says, “Bye, Bye!” and waves his little hand in the air. I guess he doesn’t need us anymore!
Actually, he still does need us. I know this because he calls my name all day. “Mama, Mama!” Thank God! I’m not ready to send this little guy off on his own yet. Not until he’s 30 anyway.

Your post caught my eye because I used to make a big deal about every month's birthday as well. Up until our toddler turned 1 year old. We thought it would be weird to continue that
Every month we would have a cake and then take pictures. He is also our one and only so we go a little over board with him. We took pictures of him every day of his life until he was around 10 months old and then after that, it was every few days or one a week now. He turned 20 months yesterday and we just make sure we acknowledge it. Happy 22 months to Ryan!
Wow 17 teeth! Our 20 month old only has 8 teeth in the front
Still waiting for those horrible molars. Can't wait for there to be more teeth so we can feed him tougher foods like steak!… hehe
My recent post Are we happier or more miserable as a parent
Funny, nothing seems to excite little girls and boys like passing buses and trucks; garbage trucks, fire trucks, school buses, etc. When our daughter hit about about 18 months, I had to learn the CORRECT identification of things like backhoes, boom trucks, graders, excavators, etc. so that I could tell her the proper names and not just call everything "digger trucks." If you haven't yet, bone up on those names!
As always, love your post Jen! I love how Ryan likes to pray with you guys. I really want us to find a church that we can go to as a family. Something I have been wanting to do, but I continue to procrastinate. Not sure why?? I love all your cute stories and I look forward to Abby growing up and doing all the same things Ryan does
So fun!
