Once I started crocheting scarves, people began asking me if I could make matching beanies to go with the scarves. Unfortunately, I hadn’t tackled that project – until recently. I figured it was finally time to face the challenge.
Back to YouTube I went. I headed to my go-to crocheter, Teresa Richardson. In addition to learning tutorials on YouTube, she also has a website where you can get the written instructions. From there, I learned to make a crochet shell cap.
It was actually easier than I thought. Once I was finished with the beanie, I felt it needed a little something more. I found a flower on Teresa’s website, www.crochet-mania.blogspot.com, and it looked easy enough, so I decided to give it a try. You can view her flower here. It actually ended up taking me 3 hours to make the flower! Yikes! Anyway, I hope that next time it won’t take me so long.
Here’s the final product!
My first outing with my beanie…
Such a special moment!! Ha, ha! I’m not really a hat person so it did feel a little weird wearing the beanie out in public. After a few compliments from my friends and family though, I began to feel more comfortable about it!
I’m definitely looking forward to making more of these beanies. I’d love to make some other patterns too! Hopefully I can find some time to complete some projects I’ve been dreaming about - after the holidays!
